A move from Brisbane to the Gold Coast, or from the Sunshine Coast down to Brisbane, sits somewhere between a local move and an interstate one. You’re staying in South East Queensland, but the truck still has to spend a good part of the day on the M1 or the Bruce Highway.
That changes how the move is planned and, sometimes, how it’s priced. At Wecube Removals, these corridor moves are part of our everyday work across South East Queensland, and this guide explains what to expect.
How Far Are These Moves?
The distances are shorter than many people expect, but the drive time still matters:
- Brisbane to the Gold Coast: roughly 80 km from the CBD to Surfers Paradise
- Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast: roughly 100 km from the CBD to Maroochydore
- Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast: closer to 180 km, right through Brisbane
In normal traffic, Brisbane to the Gold Coast is about an hour’s drive, and Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast is about an hour and a half. Peak hour, roadworks and holiday traffic can add a lot to either, and a loaded removal truck won’t beat the traffic any more than you will.
Is a Brisbane to Gold Coast Move Charged Hourly or at a Fixed Price?
It depends on the move. Local moves in Brisbane and on the Gold Coast are usually charged by the hour, and a shorter corridor move can be priced the same way. How the travel between the two addresses is charged depends on where you’re moving from and to, and we’ll explain exactly when your moving time starts and finishes in your quote.
For longer moves, the pricing often changes. Past roughly 100 km, moves tend to shift from hourly rates to a fixed price based on the volume of your belongings and the route. We explain how that works in our guide to removalist costs by city and move size.
For bigger homes, a fixed quote is often the more comfortable option. Send us your inventory, and we can give you a firm price before you book, so you’re not watching the clock while the truck sits in traffic.
What Changes on a Move Over 100 km?
On a short local move, most of the day goes on loading and unloading. On a corridor move, there’s an hour or two of driving in the middle as well, and the plan has to allow for it.
Timing matters more, too. An early start usually beats the worst of the traffic and leaves more of the day for unloading, which makes a real difference with a larger home.
Your key handover needs to line up with the truck. If you’re settling on a purchase or collecting keys from an agent, check when you’ll actually have access. If the truck arrives before the keys are released, the crew has to wait, and on an hourly move you’re paying for that time.
The good news is that the job stays simple. On a typical corridor move, the crew that loads your belongings also unloads them, and everything travels on the one truck.
How Long Does It Take to Move From the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane?
For most households, it’s a one-day job. As a rough guide, a local move with straightforward access takes about two to three hours for a one-bedroom home, three to four hours for two bedrooms, and four to six hours for three bedrooms. On a Sunshine Coast to Brisbane move, add the drive between the two addresses on top of that.
A large family home, difficult access or a long walk from the truck can stretch that into a very full day. In those cases, we’ll talk to you about the crew size and truck that will get the job done most efficiently.
Can I Store Furniture Between a Gold Coast and Brisbane Move?
Yes, and it’s more common than you might think. Settlement dates don’t always line up, and a lease can end a week or two before the new place is ready.
With a move-and-store approach, we load your belongings once, hold them in storage, and deliver them when your new home is ready. It saves you from renting a storage unit, moving everything in, and then moving it all out again a few weeks later. Just let us know about the gap when you request a quote, and we’ll plan it as one job.
A Little Local Knowledge at Each End
Each region has its own quirks, and knowing them makes moving day easier:
- Brisbane: High-set Queenslanders often have steep external stairs and narrow verandahs, while inner-city apartments in the CBD, Newstead and Hamilton usually need a lift booking.
- Gold Coast: High-rises in Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach and Southport often ask for lift bookings a week or two in advance, and some buildings don’t allow Sunday moves. Canal-front streets in areas such as Hope Island and Mermaid Waters can be tight for a large truck.
- Sunshine Coast: Hinterland properties can have long, steep driveways, and coastal streets fill up quickly on weekends and in the holidays.
Tell us about stairs, lifts, parking and driveway access at both addresses when you enquire. Our Brisbane removalists and Gold Coast removalists will plan the crew and vehicle around both ends. For moves further afield, such as Toowoomba or regional Queensland, see our Queensland removals page.
Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to move from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane?
